Reminder: NY Paid Family Leave Effective January 1

By Collazo, Florentino & Keil LLP

January 2, 2018

On January 1, New York State’s Paid Family Leave (“PFL”) Legislation went into effect. As a reminder, the law requires employers to include written PFL policies in their employee handbooks or other employee guidance and to post a notice about their PFL coverage in the workplace; a copy of the required poster can be obtained from the employer’s PFL insurance carrier. The State has also issued sample PFL forms, including a Statement of Rights for PFL that employers are required to send employees when they take time off from work for a Paid Family Leave qualifying event, whether or not they have requested Paid Family Leave. The State has also issued a “Frequently Asked Questions” guide addressing some of the questions surrounding PFL. For additional information, please contact any attorney at the firm.
