Susan Potter Norton is a principal at Allen, Norton & Blue, P.A.’s Coral Gables office.
Allen, Norton & Blue limits its practice to the representation of management in labor and employment issues. Norton represents public sector, corporate and professional clients in all matters pertaining to labor and employment law, including sexual harassment, age, sex, and race discrimination, Title II and Title III public accommodation, Wage and Hour, Whistleblower and Retaliation; and matters before the National Labor Relations Board and Public Employees Relation Commission.
Norton, who is Board Certified in Labor and Employment Law, is listed as a “Best Lawyer in America,” and a “Leading Florida Attorney,” in Chambers USA America’s Leading Business Lawyers and most recently contributed to the American Bar Association’s Family Legal Guide.” She is currently co-chair of the ABA’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee and was co-chair of the ABA’s Labor and Employment Committee Section of Litigation and a frequent participant in the ABA’s CLE programs. In addition to her law practice, Norton is involved in a wide variety of professional, civic and charitable activities. Norton served as president of the Orange Bowl Committee for the 2002 Orange Bowl game and was the first female to do so. She was a member of the Executive Committee for the 1995 & 1999 Super Bowl Host Committees, is past Chair of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce and co-Chaired the 1998 United Way campaign for United Way of Miami-Dade. That Campaign resulted in a 23% increase from 1997 marking it the most successful in the country. She also chaired the Florida Chamber’s Human Resources Council and is a member of Dade County’s Miami Business Forum (Non-Group).
In addition to her law practice, Norton has written articles on a multitude of employment-related decisions that could result in legal entanglement. Her expertise in human resources, based upon more than 25 years of practice in labor and employment law, has earned her attention from national, regional and local media. Norton is frequently called upon to provide analysis on the complexity of the issues surrounding the workplace. She is regularly featured in The Miami Herald, Daily Business Review and South Florida Business Journal commenting on issues pertaining to human resources. She recently appeared in Business Week, Business Finance and Industry Week’s “IW Growing Companies,” a management resource for small manufacturers. Norton is the recipient of the Cervera Real Estate Miami Ambassador Award, part of the 2001 Red Cross Spectrum Awards for Women. She was the 1995 recipient of the Anti-Defamation League’s Americanism Award, received a 1993 Woman of Distinction Award from South Florida Magazine, and in 1992 was presented with the William Colson Leadership Award.
A Florida native, Norton was raised in Jacksonville. She obtained both her MBA and juris doctorate cum laude in 1975, from Florida State University
